What do we do when life doesn't make sense? Who can we turn to when we have questions and we do not know where to turn? What if the plan we have for our lives is not turning out the way we wanted? Where do we get the confidence to press forward when the world is telling us no?
Today I was on the treadmill and Little Lady was watching Veggie Tales. The story was about obeying and Mo was called by God to go stand up to Pharoh to let his people go. He was afraid, but would try and then give up when it wasn't going as planned. His brother Aaron said in a paraphrase, "listen brother you are trying to do this on your own strength, you are not letting God work in you and be your strength." I thought about my own life and how I may think that I have given a situation to God and then realize I was doing it on my own and not letting God show up to do the work. Do I give up to easy out of fear, anxiety, laziness, or am I not hearing God because I am drowning in business and not being still and letting him speak? Folks I am guilty of all of this and I do not deserve anything but death, but Christ has died for my fear, for my anxiety, for my laziness, for my business. God is bigger than all of my situations.
...But how do we go on when we do not understand the plan God is giving us? Knowing that God has a plan even when we do not understand takes a broken spirit that is ready to listen and be open to what God is saying to us. Sometimes the situations that God has us go through to prove that he is real doesn't seem right or fair, but when we can be open to what he is teaching us we can draw closer to him. God is Good all the time! Sometimes God uses cancer, sickness, or even the death of a child to speak to us. Christ wants us. He wants our soul, he wants a close relationship with us. He wants us to trust that he knows us and loves us even in the midst of darkness. It takes giving our lives to him. Cry out to him and watch for blessings that come out of pain. Watch for strength when you don't think you can crawl out of bed. Watch for joy that comes in the midst of a trial. God is reaching out his arms waiting for you to take hold. He loves you my friend!
Sometimes there is no easy answer. Sometimes there is no explanation, but having faith that God is there can be enough to get you through the day. It can be the strength for you to get up in the morning, and the hope to plunge back into life until the day we see Jesus face to face.
1st John 3:1 says, "How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!
Psalm 46:1-2 reads, "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea."
Matthew 5:4 says, "Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted."
Psalm 73:26, "My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever."
Sometimes horrible things happen to great people, and I wish we could understand the reasons. Being a first born child I have always liked to know why. I remember as a child arguing with my mom because I had to know why she was saying no. I really was not trying to be disrespectful I just wanted to know why, but it came to the point that I needed to trust that my mom knew what was best for me because she had more wisdom and experience.
Well the same thing with the Lord! He for sure has more wisdom than us and he really does know what is best for us even when we do not understand. So I urge you to take the plunge into trusting the one who created you with a purpose, a purpose that builds a kingdom for his glory. You cannot go wrong so press on!
Philippians 3:12, "Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me."
