Have you ever been working with roses and get stabbed by a thorn, or walking in the woods and step on a thistle. When that happens to me it is all I can do to not yell! It hurts.
What about the thorns that we have been given by God. Those things in our life that tell us we don't have it altogether. The things that keeps us humble and realizing that we really need a savior.
I said to my kiddos the other day on the way to church, "Guys why do you obey mom and dad?" Boo Boo responded, "Because we have to," Tough Guy responded, "Because we love you!" (That is what I wanted to hear)! I proceeded to say, "God has called you to obey and honor your father and mother, but you obey because you love. In return you are blessed by mom and dad. We see when you obey the first time without whining and we choose to do special things for you, like going to a splash pad or the zoo. We bless you because we love you.
In the same way when we obey what God makes clear to us he will in return bless us. Sometimes that is hard to do when we look at a situation and think it isn't possible. Fortunately God has bigger glasses than we do!
Sometimes our thorns are what is causing us to not be blessed. We think we have to control whatever it is. When we seriously, out of faith, LET IT GO and surrender it to Christ and just obey, we will in return be blessed.
Where I am weak he is strong! There is a purpose for our thorns. God has a plan to work out with our thorns.
God loves us because we are his children, just like we love and bless our children, he blesses us.
It really is true folks! I was struggling with a thorn and fighting to control it and my husband, (my rock, which sometimes annoys me, but it really is good that he can be stubborn), said "Jen, God wants this from you, you are called to obey and you expect your children to obey!" OUCH folks!
So out of faith I listened and guess what folks, God is good! He did what he said he was going to do. He blessed us!
Deuteronomy 11:26-28
See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse, the blessing if you obey the commands of the Lord your God that I am giving you today; the curse if you disobey the commands of the Lord your God..."
Give the Lord your thorns and watch him bless you! Trust and see that the Lord is good!
God makes beautiful things out of dust!!!
