What I LOVE about garage sales!

I live in a large neighborhood that every year has a subdivision garage sale.  I try to participate every year because it is a way to make extra money and with working 1 day a week we can use the money.  I also LOVE to declutter.  It is so funny because when the kids cannot find something they automatically say I must have sold it.  Sometimes I will admit it may be true, but not always.  We live in a ranch home and clutter adds up fast and if I am going to get grouchy its because I cannot see the floor or everywhere I turn something is taking up a space.  I will be honest I have come a very long way.  I used to be a clean freak and now after 3 kiddos I am way more laid back than I have ever been, but every now and then I need to see a cleaned up and refreshed home.
So this weekend was the sale and I was not able to take part in the sale because I had to be somewhere Friday afternoon and on Saturday we had baseball and soccer games.  So my husband and I found a few big items and asked 2 different neighbors and friends if we could set a few things out.  Almost everything sold, which is exciting, but my favorite part is talking to the neighbors and people that are out.  Garage sales in Northern Indiana bring people out of the wood work.  The entire morning was filled with fellowship!  I was so exhilarated walking around and seeing people I know.  I actually never got to leave my street because from 7:30 until 11:30 when I had to leave I was talking and fellow shipping with women.   There is something to be said about that.  Especially as a home schooling mom I think it is so great when women can get together and just talk.  We all have so much in common.  We are in some way or another dealing with the same things and it feels so good to realize we are not alone.  I was reminded of Matthew 18:20, "For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them. I really believe that Christ smiles when he looks at a group of women who are gathered together laughing and talking and sharing recipes and discussing babies.
The other great thing about a garage sales is finding deals. Tough guy was so excited to find a bag full of transformers for 50 cents.  It made his entire day!  What made my day was that he bought something for his brother and sister just because he loves them.  I love those moments when their hearts are thinking of others first!  In fact, as we speak my Little Lady has two of her friends in her room and she is having them pay her for toys she no longer wants.  She even got sacks for their new treasures.  I better go and make sure she is not trying to sell her brothers! God Bless!
