Something I tell my kiddos quite often is, "Are you bearing fruit for Jesus?" Where is your heart? Most if not all discipline is a heart issue. I love the book "Sheparding a Child's Heart" because he makes us aware that outward behavior is not what we are looking for, it is a heart change. A heart that is seeking Christ. How do we know a heart that is seeking Christ? Jesus says, "you will know them by their fruit, do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them. Matthew 7: 16-20.
Lets be active in teaching our children how to bear GOOD fruit for Jesus! A heart that is dying to selfishness and is surrendering to Gods will. "Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven." Matthew 7: 21.
