Boo Boo comes running in the house yelling loudly, "MOM do you know what Ava said?" On and on he went describing in great detail everything that supposedly came out of her mouth and then some! I listened intently, although I do not put up with tattling, I was curious what was happening in the garage. So I finally reply, "Whoa Boo, what should we do about that?" He replies, "Can I just punch her?" Trying to keep a calm face I said, "Boo, would Jesus want you to punch your sister?" Then the truth came out, "No, I just really want to!"
Out of the mouth speaks the heart!
Learning to control anger is a hard lesson to be caught. Fortunately most of us have learned some sort of self-control and etiquette, and we know the difference between right and wrong. I was able to go through 38 years without punching anyone, but I find myself looking in the eyes of a 7 year old that thinks it is just fine to let his sister have it.
What do we do?
We go back to basics:
- Love is patient and kind. Is punching your sister patient and kind?
- If you are loving others and putting others before yourself should we want to inflict pain on them? - Do unto others as you want done to you!
I don't know if Boo Boo's heart changed that day or if the impulsiveness of wanting to punch her left after my bout of wisdom, but I do know that eventually, after repeating the same instruction over and over and over again, one of these days my children will start hearing another voice that gives them clear instruction. A voice that says, "You know this is not a good choice, but you have free will, what will you choose?" A voice that is there to guide them, convict them, teach them, and draw them closer to Jesus Christ.
I want my children to be able to hear the holy spirit, but for now we as parents serve as their "holy spirit" until they can learn to listen and hear God on their own. We need to teach them how to pray and how to be ready to hear God. That can be tough, but the truth is "If they cannot obey mom and dad they will not be ready to obey God." God may call these children to much harder things than what I am asking them to do at home, so they need to be prepared and they need to be trained to obey.
It starts at home.
Luke 6 :46 says, "Why do you call me Lord, Lord, and not do what I tell you?
Matthew 7:21 says, "Not everyone who says to me, Lord Lord will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven."
James 1:19 says, "My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires."

As for Boo Boo and Little Lady their relationship has since mended. They are getting along great right at the moment, (Oh I guess they are sleeping)! Well we will see what character building we venture on tomorrow!
Good night!
